Beginning a Fascination with Ultra-Endurance Events

 Hyannis Triathlon

For a long time now, I've been really interested in ultra endurance events. I have been absolutely fascinated with the idea of running a marathon and the training for such an event. The hard and gruesome work to complete 26 miles seems like such a fun and exciting challenge. My fascination goes much farther than that though. I have been so interested in triathlons where you do swimming into biking into running for long distances. I fantasize the workout regime making me into a much stronger and happier person. It's exciting.

My goals have always been incredibly big. I have known for years that I want to do some insane hiking, that I want to do a marathon, that I want to do a half-Ironman so that I could eventually do a full Ironman. These desires have floated in my head for years because it seemed like something so grand and big and would maybe fill my life with interesting events and experiences and probably interesting people and maybe even make me into an interesting people. It didn't stop there. Then I became obsessed with possibly doing an ultra-marathon at some point in my life after seeing video after video after video of people doing 100 miles in 36 hours or less. Doing these insane ultra-marathons where they run 100 miles over 50,000 feet of elevation gain. It is absolute insanity and probably intense suffering but I just think about the workout to get there and the dopamine rush that would hit me as I crossed a finish line.

While I have thought about doing these events for a long time and I have been doing some yearly races, I knew to do lots of these events I would want to have a partner to do it with me. I knew I would want it to be a significant other of mine however I was also fine with doing it with a friend and for a good while, I was doing it with a close friend of mine. Just training for a yearly 10k race which was always fun.

Now I am here with a significant other and we are working to building up training in all three events to get our body in shape for our first triathlon. We decided on an Olympic Triathlon in Hyannis that will be 0.9 miles of swimming, 21 miles of biking, and 6.2 miles of running. We have some time and some history in at least one of these disciplines so the Olympic size seemed appropriate for our first triathlon. I cannot wait. I believe it will be one of the most exciting days and mornings of my life so far.

All I can do is think about how strong we'll be when we eventually do it. Slowly every week we're getting stronger and hopefully by then we'll be strong enough to do this without too much issue and can focus on getting a semi-decent time. However, for our first triathlon, all that matters is finishing it and having an amazing first experience.

    We can't wait
